Who struggles with meditation? I do!

This morning I was sitting and trying to meditate and wondered if it would always be such a struggle for me. Logically, I know it won’t. From what I understand, it can be difficult for some folks and it just takes time and persistence.

For me, thoughts start intruding; what I need to do today, did I remember to do such-and-such, etc. When this happens, I know the key is to gently move my thoughts back to where they should be.

But what do you do if you have needy rescue kittens who like to “check in” with you every few minutes? I think in my case I need to start closing my bedroom door – at least until my focus improves. Or wait until both cats are sleeping.

If anyone has any tips that work for them, feel free to share!

One tip I read is to think of thoughts as little white clouds in a blue sky. You observe them floating by, but then just watch them and let them keep floating. Don’t think of them as intrusions to be dealt with or ignored… they’re just little white clouds on the blue sky, and they’ll float past. Observe them, then return your focus.

Thank you, Holly! Little white clouds seem like a quiet, gentle way to put intrusive thoughts in their place. I like it.

Beautiful! I have attained something of a method, which is not visual but I have finally made progress in letting the thoughts just drift through rather than trying to close the windows and keep them out. Make friends with them. Say hello, be calm and polite, and don’t get excited or intimidated by the barrage. It doesn’t mean anything about you. It happens to everyone.

Thank you! I will try to keep that in mind.
